S. GILES PAYNE is a principal of Brody Wilkinson and a member of the firm’s Trust & Estates and Business Groups. He practices in the areas of estate planning and trusts, estate administration, and general corporate law. He assists individuals with tax and charitable gift planning, business owners with succession planning, and families planning for aging or incapacitated family members. Mr. Payne is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated attorney.
Mr. Payne is a member of the American, Connecticut, and Greater Bridgeport Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Payne graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover in 1959. He received his B.S. from Yale College in 1963 and his LL.B. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1966.
Mr. Payne has been involved in numerous civic activities over many years, including service as a director of Bridgeport Hospital, an affiliate of the Yale New Haven Health System, as chair of its Professional and Quality Assurance Committee, as a member of the Leadership Council of the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), director and secretary of the Borck Family Foundation, director of United Visiting Nurse Association, and, director and vice president of Oak Lawn Cemetery Association. Mr. Payne served three years in the United States Coast Guard Reserve in Seattle, Washington, as a legal officer and trial lawyer.
Mr. Payne’s volunteer activities have included service to the game of golf as president of the Yale Golf Association, as a member of the United States Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship Committee, a participant in national seminars on minorities in golf, and as a former general chairman of the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open Championships. He is a member of The Country Club of Fairfield and a member and past president of Brooklawn Country Club.
He resides with his wife, Lucia, in Fairfield, Connecticut.
